Where’s the inspiration gone?

I’m not positive on what’s happening in the world, or if anyone feels the same way, but music is very important to me, especially music with beautiful meaningful lyrics, emotion, energy. But–for some reason it’s seeming more and more that the inspiration is being drained from the music that bands are releasing now. Case and point–two of my favorite bands–VNV Nation and Assemblage 23.

I adored these bands for their beautiful music and amazing lyrics, but after waiting and waiting for new material, I’m a little disappointed. I’ll let the lyrics speak for themselves. VNV will be my example because it’s the most extreme, you have to really listen to Assemblage to understand the difference. On the left is OLD VNV nation, on the right is the new. Is it just me?
